The Convention will be held from June 23-25 at the RACV Royal Pines.
California-based, fourth generation vegetable grower Jack Vessey is the president of American vegetable producer Vessey and Company Inc.
Mr Vessey will speak on the issues facing western United States vegetable production, which are relevant to all industries represented at the Convention.
Ausveg spokesperson Nathan McIntyre said Mr Vessey will provide an exciting perspective on international horticulture.
“Mr Vessey’s extensive lineage in American horticulture is in itself a novel and foreign concept to most of our local growers, who we anticipate will revel in his address,” said Mr McIntyre.
"Mr Vessey will join other distinguished speakers, including keynote speaker Rob Kaan, managing director of Dow AgroSciences, and Emmy Award-winning genetic modification expert Jon Entine, to provide delegates with valuable information that they can potentially use to improve their business operations.”
The National Horticulture Convention event has gained momentum in recent years, evolving from what was essentially the Ausveg Convention and Trade Show.
Now, the national vegetable representative group has partnered with Apple and Pear Australia Limited (APAL), the Central Markets Association of Australia, Fresh Markets Australia (CMAA-FMA), Growcom, Persimmons Australia Inc and Australian Organic to present a broader horticulture focus.
The first official day of the conference will cater to pear and apple growers with APAL hosting industry updates, an apple variety showcase, its annual general meeting and a social event in the evening, prior to the official reception and opening of the trade show.
Convention information sessions will be held across the Friday and Saturday with the National Awards of Excellence taking place at a gala dinner on the Saturday night.
A Women in Horticulture gathering on the Saturday afternoon will celebrate the significant contributions of women in horticulture and provide insights from leading women in Australian business.
Vegetable growers will have the option of attending an additional session on the Sunday at the Practicalities for Exporting Vegetables Symposium.
The speaker program for the symposium will include experts from across the export supply chain, representatives from Austrade and the Australian Government, as well as vegetable growers sharing their experiences of the export process.
The trade show will see leading agricultural companies display their latest products and services in areas including crop protection, irrigation, farm machinery, packaging solutions and fertilisers among others.
